Former Massachusetts State Representative Endorses
Ward 5 Candidate Ellen Moorhouse

Springfield, Mass (August 1, 2022) — Former State Representative and Springfield’s first and only Latino elected “at-large” to the city council, Jose Tosado, has endorsed Ellen Moorhouse, a candidate for the Ward 5 special election in Springfield, MA this summer.

A member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives representing the 9th Hampden District, Tosado assumed office in 2015 and left office in 2021 after 6 years of service to the people of Western MA. Tosado was assigned to several key committees, including the joint Ways and Means Committee and served as Vice Chair of the Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery Joint Committee.

“Ward 5 has an incredibly diverse population. Latinos are more than 7,300 strong, representing more than 28% of residents in the district. Because Ellen is bilingual, she can listen to and speak with Spanish-speaking voters in the neighborhood about issues that matter most to them,” said former State Representative Jose Tosado. “I’m proud to stand behind Ellen as the next Ward 5 City Councilor for Springfield.”

“Representative Tosado has long been a mentor figure for me in the local organizing community. His dedication to his community and to the Commonwealth cannot be overstated. Together we can activate and engage with members in our community who otherwise wouldn’t feel heard,” said candidate Ellen Moorhouse. “It’s important that everyone has a seat at the table, but that only happens if you vote. Your vote is your voice. Su voto es su voz. Be sure to register and cast your ballot for this summer’s special election on August 16.”

“Ellen is the ‘real deal,’” said Tosado. “She has been an active force for social justice and community engagement for many years. From her leadership in organizing cleanup efforts on Lake Massasoit to her involvement in the Young Professional Society of Greater Springfield (YPS), to her dedication to amplifying women’s voices, Ellen provides a fresh and common sense approach that brings people together. Ellen Moorhouse is exactly the leader that Ward 5 and the City of Springfield needs now, more than ever.”

“As a Ward 5 resident, I support and endorse Ellen Moorhouse without reservation to be my next City Councilor and respectfully ask the residents of Ward 5 to please consider her by casting your vote,” said Former State Representative Jose Tosado.
