Lake Massasoit Community Cleanup

Lake Massasoit, Springfield’s largest body of water, was drained in the fall of 2020 to complete much needed dam-repairs. When the lake was drained, it was evident how much trash needed to be cleaned from the lakebed – including 6 cars that were found at the bottom believed to be blown in from the 2011 tornado. Ellen worked with city residents, government officials, and other stakeholders throughout Springfield abutting Lake Massasoit, to host several community clean-up days dedicated to cleaning the lake of debris and trash to support the city’s bulk trash cleanup. More than 200 residents came out to support the efforts, cleaning up more than 5 tons of trash throughout the lake. Repairs are completed and the refill of the lake has officially begun.

“As a Veteran and Ward 5 resident, I met Ellen when she organized the first city-wide event to clean up Lake Massasoit. After seeing her leadership in action, I knew she was committed to working hard on behalf of her neighbors and community. Her belief in the true power of people proves that she would be a qualified and strong voice as our next Ward 5 City Councilor.”
